Sawmill Brewing
Sawmill is an independent, New Zealand owned brewery run by a small and talented team.
The Brewery was established in 2004 on the site of what was once the Leigh Sawmill, a timber mill operating since the 1860’s. Our brewing is underpinned by this heritage of craftsmanship and tenacity.
We appreciate our place. This raw landscape has a bearing on everything we do and people here are resourceful, creative and hardworking.
Our Leigh brewery, while beautiful, was bursting at the seams so we are stoked to be in new premises at 1004 Leigh Road, Matakana. It means a great deal to us to be able to open the Smoko Room, a place in the brewery for conversation, community, food and drink. Come visit.

Nearly a year ago we moved to our new site just out of Matakana and our old brewhouse went abroad to a whale blubber factory in Melbourne, its new home with the Australian brewery Hop Nation. To celebreate this first anniversary, Duncan came over from Hop Nation and we brewed an Australian Pale Ale using 100% Australian grown Galaxy and Topaz hops to give the beer a massive tropical kick. A Witbier with a difference! This traditional Belgian style has been ramped up with racy fresh Nelson Sauvin hops. A citrusy and herbaceous aroma that really bounces out of the glass.
